Our popular gin train features five specially selected local gins served as your steam train makes two journeys from Sheringham to Holt and return. Our driver experience sessions last for about an hour on the footplate and are an ideal present for a special occasion or just for a memorable and unforgettable piece of self indulgence. After the driver experience, participants are presented with a Swanage Railway goody bag which includes a framed certificate and a Swanage Railway Driver Experience mug. There are photographic opportunities with the steam locomotive at Swanage and Norden stations for the family and friends of driver experience participants. All driver experience trains begin and end at Swanage station and cannot be boarded anywhere else along the line. Well here's an amazing experience to do just that, come along and drive  (under instruction) our Sentinel engine. Our Sentinel came from Daw Mill in 1993, it is powered by a Rolls Royce 8 cylinder supercharged engine, has 325 brake horse power and capable of hauling 1500 tonne. If you like power this engine ticks the boxes. The experience begins at Stanhope Station (DL13 2YS) where you will meet the team, enjoy a cuppa and listen to a safety brief and a little more about the Sentinel. Once the formalities are done, you will be in the hands of our Driver who will take you through the controls and undertake a short test run just to get the feel of the engine, then we will set off down to Broadwood River Bridge approx. 3 miles down the track. On returning to Stanhope there will be time to take some photographs and you receive a memento of your experience.

Steam Driver Experiences with 7820 Dinmore Manor

On Tuesday 10 September and Saturday 21 September we aim to make steam locomotive Dinmore Manor available for Silver Driver Experiences, which means that you as a lucky steam driver will get a feel of Dinmore Manor and experience her sheer power as you tackle our steeply graded Railway! You will get to pull a rake of 1950s passenger coaches when you drive a round trip of the line up to our boundary gate at Thame Junction and return, all made under guidance from our experienced driving instructor. We are confident you will have a great time! Our friendly and knowledgeable train crew will look after all our new Drivers and guide them throughout their Steam Driver Experience. Starting with a Safety Briefing, we then give a familiarisation session with the locomotive, to show how it works and how to operate its controls. We'll show our new Drivers how to start and stop the locomotive and train safely and what to do as they take it and the train along the 6 mile round trip of the line. Price £495 (includes VAT) Enjoy one trip of the line as a solo driving experience - drive Dinmore Manor to Thame Junction and return with expert tuition given by our experienced staff. You may be able take a second trip in the locomotive cab as an observer too. You can also bring along up to 6-Guests with you for a Free ride in the passenger coaches if arranged in advance - it's always enjoyable to join in with the fun on a Driving Experience - even for those who are not driving!
